Logo Guidelines

The FIU logo is essential to our visual brand and website. It represents the entire university. Our logo is likely the first thing our audience sees and might be the last thing they remember. There are several versions of the FIU logo for different use cases. Most colleges and large units around the university have an FIU logo unique to them.

Only the Division of Strategic Communications, Government and External Affairs can create and authorize the distribution of the university’s official logos.

All FIU and specialized unit logos are available for download in PDF and PNG formats.

Primary FIU Logo

The Primary FIU Logo is the most used and recognizable version of our brand. There are three versions of the primary logo, and selecting the right one depends on format, available space, audience and readability.

Primary Logo Guidelines

  • Use any version of the primary logos for all internal university-wide communications, marketing initiatives and web ads. Prioritize using the horizontal or vertical versions of the logo unless space is limited.
  • Use either the horizontal or vertical versions of the logo for official university documents.
  • Use either the horizontal or vertical versions of the logo for non-local audiences, national or international web ads and marketing initiatives.
  • The primary acronym logo should only be used for marketing materials, never for official university documents.
  • The primary acronym logo may be used on its own for on-campus marketing materials and events.
  • Do not combine the primary acronym logo with an official unit logo.

Unit Logo

Each college and most large units and centers at FIU have a specific logo that includes the FIU acronym and the name of the college or unit. These logos are intended for use in internal communications and for the official representation of each unit.

College and Unit Guidelines

  • Units should exclusively use their official logos on their websites.
  • Unit logos should not be combined with primary FIU logos.
  • Avoid using college or unit logos for external-facing marketing initiatives or web ads. Use a primary FIU logo instead.
  • Promotional materials featuring unit logos must be created through licensed vendors and/or approved by FIU Branding and Licensing.
  • Unit logos should not be used on promotional items, except in certain cases for colleges and schools. Other exceptions will require approval from FIU Branding and Licensing.
  • For communications featuring multiple FIU units, use the outlined block letter logo with a list of the featured units.

University Seal

The University Seal is reserved for official use only, such as on diplomas, certificates and legal documents. It cannot be used in promotional materials or merchandise for university units.

The seal is not available for download and should not be used on websites or in any promotional content.

Panther Logo

The Panther Logo has long been tied to FIU Athletics. As the FIU brand has grown, so has its significance. No longer limited to Athletics, it now serves as a secondary symbol of the university.

The Panther Logo may be used alongside primary FIU logos for internal university-wide communications, on-campus marketing initiatives and events. However, it cannot replace primary FIU logos, represent the university as a whole or any academic or administrative unit.

Approval for using the Panther Logo in special publications, external marketing initiatives or web ads may be granted by the Division of Strategic Communications, Government and External Affairs.

Student Organization Logo

Student organizations and clubs can create their own logo to represent their identity, but they cannot use FIU’s registered marks in their design. The only way a student organization can use FIU’s registered marks is by using the approved student organization logo.

For more information, download the Student Organization Branding Guide.

Sport Clubs Logo

University sports clubs can use the FIU Sports Clubs patch and labels. The patch is required for all sports clubs, while the labels are optional.

The sports clubs patch must appear on all materials and apparel representing sports clubs, including uniforms, promotional items and any other items that officially represent the clubs. The label must include the FIU Panther or Panthers wordmark, along with the club name.

Promotional Logos

Units can create promotional logos for specific initiatives, programs or events. These logos should not replace the unit logo and must not include any elements of the FIU logo.

When representing the university externally, the unit logo should be the primary identity, with the promotional logo used as a secondary element. The goal is to clearly show that the initiative, program or event is part of FIU.

Licensing and Merchandise

All university verbiage, logos, designs, seals, and symbols are registered trademarks of FIU. Internal units must use the approved logo set provided by the Division of Strategic Communications, Government, and External Affairs for all marketing materials.

Licensed Vendors

Vendors must be approved by FIU’s Procurement Services and have a license from CLC, our licensing agency, to use official university marks.

To find FIU-licensed vendors, visit CLC’s Licensee Search page. Select Florida International University as the school to view all licensees. You can search the results using Control + F (Windows) or Command + F (Mac).
